As a member of Northwest State Community College, you serve an important, unique and vital purpose to our campus community, in addition to your family, friends and community at-large. Your health and well-being are important to us, including your mental health.

There are circumstances, events, or experiences that can impact our mental health and well-being. The important thing to remember is that these feelings are temporary and you can and will overcome them. You matter and you do not have to face this alone – in fact, you shouldn’t.

There is help. There is hope. Please reach out!

Learners

Employees

The Employee Assistance Program is a benefit that provides eligible employees with up to three visits (per presenting issue, per plan year) to licensed counseling services, at no cost to the employee, for a variety of mental health-related concerns, in an effort to promote mental and emotional wellness. Signs To Be Aware Of

  • Acting withdrawn
  • Lack of interest in usual activities once interested in
  • Isolation/lack of engagement with family and friends
  • Discomfort with and avoidance of social activities
  • Sleeping too much or not enough
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty with
    • Getting out of bed
    • Concentrating or staying focused
    • Completing tasks
  • Talking about
    • Death
    • Harming oneself
    • World/family would be better off without them
    • Feeling like a burden
    • General sense of hopelessness
    • Feeling worthless or aimless
    • Loss of purpose
  • Low priority on personal appearance – especially if this arises suddenly or drastically, following a personal loss or disappointment – such as
    • Appearing unkempt or disheveled
    • Discontinuing applying make-up, if typically would do so
    • Displaying poor hygiene
    • Difficulty or disinterested in showering (citing too much effort)

Get Connected

Active Minds Local Chapter is a student-led organization dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and conquering the stigma that has long-surrounded this area of health and well-being. Furthermore, this organization seeks to open up the conversation surrounding mental health, generate understanding and empathy, and provide information on resources for getting help when in need.
